When the obvious approaches to seeing your child, such as private counseling, family court mediation (tyoutei), court ordered visitation, court contested custody, etc fail, perhaps there are other alternatives.  (BTW, don't forget simple one-on-one negotiation with the custodial parent without the lawyers involved.)

Known Successful Legal Approaches.   Legal strategies that have a successful example to back them up.  If possible we have a case reference.

Suggested Legal Approaches.   Items in this category range from being suggested either by a lawyer or some reasonably authoritative source such as an employee at a local government office,  as something to try to others that members have come up with but are just brainstorming.  But they may be worth it, so ask your lawyer.  In any case, please report back here if you try it and have a case of it working or not working.

1. •United States federal anti-discrimination statutes apply to American companies around the world, at least with respect to US citizens, even if employed outside of the United States.  So one approach would be to get Congress to amend the act to allow US citizens to go after employees of US companies in Japan who are denying access to US citizen children.  But it will get some of them....
